LANGUAGE~WRITING
Writing Assignment #1: You Are a Part of Living History!!!
All of us are currently living through a time in history that will be talked about for generations to come. Schools are closed, sports are cancelled and people are quarantined on a global level! One thing you can do is keep a journal over the next few weeks. I would like you to try and write a little bit (a paragraph or two) about what you are doing every day or every other day.
Things you may want to consider:
- How are you feeling about what is going on?
- How do the other people in your family feel? (Interview them!)
- What are you doing to pass the time?
- What do you like the most about being home with your family?
- What part of social distancing are you finding the most challenging?
- Anything else you want to add, this is your journal
- Record day to day activities and feelings
You can handwrite this out in a book or type it out on a computer. You should add photographs, drawings, even a video if you want! One day you will share this book with your children and grandchildren.
Here is an example:
April 1, 2020
It was so heart-warming to see the sun today. I knew it was still going to feel cold, but for a second I thought about the potential for warmth. I slowly made my way downstairs; as I do most days hoping not to wake Colt and Tye (Keli is usually already up). I’m really not sure why I go quietly as my boys don’t even wake until 1:30pm most days! As I turned to go to the kitchen, I saw that my dining room table project had not finished itself overnight. After my morning tea, I was adamant that I would finish my dining room table today! There was no stopping me. Mostly, because I was so sick and tired of doing it. I just wanted it finished. By the end of the evening, I did end up finishing the table; which made me very proud! Overall, it was a good, but more importantly productive, day.
LANGUAGE ~ READING
Upon speaking to many parents, I know there were some concerns regarding the lack of reading materials at home. More specifically, reading materials available at the student’s reading level. I have signed you up for Epic for reading at home. There are over 35,000 books in this digital library made for children. Many of these books, have options to have the book read to the reader as well. I chose this because you can even use the Epic app on a phone; which allows for easier access. The app is free to download and very simple to navigate. There will be a link on the class website as well. I will be assigning some specific reading at different times moving forward.
Instructions for use:
Go to website:
Or if downloading the app, it’s called “Epic”
